About this work

Description

The military hospital, V.R. 76 was founded in 1915 by the Hon. Lady Johnstone and Mr Harold J. Reckitt. Situated at Ris-Orangis (12 miles south of Paris), treating only surgical cases, the hospital was the operating centre for a group of nine hospitals attached to it. The hospital closed in 1918

The lettering is hand-written on facing folio Lettering continued: "Wound from rifle ball, at Dounamont (?) was attacking ahead of his men in front lines. Fell through shock, and was unable to walk. Some comrades carried him to the dressing station and field surgeon dressed his wounds he was then sent to Hospital Militaire" Folio bears number: 27
