About this work

Description

This series of correspondence comprises letters and other communications (postcards, telegrams, etc.) between Marthe Vogt, her parents Oskar and Cécile Vogt, and her younger sister Marguerite 'Maggi' Vogt. The letters offer a detailed insight into the relationship between Marthe and her immediate family. There is an gap in the correspondence between 1939-1945 as it was obviously not possible to send / receive letters between Britain and Nazi-occupied Europe. During this period, Marthe communicated with her family by means of a third party in Sweden. The details of this arrangement can be gleaned from letters within PP/MLV/F/2. Correspondence is in German and French, emphasising the bilingual nature of Marthe's family life.

Arrangement

These papers were originally stored across a number of envelops and folders, partly filed by date and partly kept in no perceivable order. To facilitate searching by users, they have been amalgated into one series and rearranged according to the year in which they were written. Papers have not been ordered by date within each year due to the amount of time required for this process.
