Biographical note

ALERT was founded in December 1991 with the aim of "defending vulnerable people's right to live". It has campaigned against all attempts to have euthanasia legalised or decriminalised and also against initiatives that it has viewed as creating "a climate for the acceptance of euthanasia", such as the the promotion of Living Wills. It was founded by the anti-abortion and anti-euthanasia activists Peggy Norris (1921-2008) and (Marion) Elspeth Chowdhary-Best née Rhys Williams (b. 1937) has acted as its Honorary Secretary.
