Box file containing items of ephemera in acid free sleeves. Includes newspaper cuttings advertising a cure (Crane Court, London, April 1723), Daniel Smith's 'Observations on Dr. Williams' treatise on the gout' (1774), William Falconer's 'Observations on Dr. Cadogan's treatise on the gout and all chronic diseases' (1786), B. Guest's observations on medicines for curing the gout (1813) backed with adverts for Atkinson's Original Curling Fluid (for the hair) and Pressey and Barclay's orange marmalade (371 Oxford Street), Charles Wilson's Medicinal Water for the gout (1813), J. Williams' 'Advice to people afflicted with the gout' (1779) which also mentions mineral water and a German spa, Mr. Rye's (of Blakesley near Towcester) plaister for the gout (and a list of the coffee houses etc. where it is on sale).
