Conjurat amice non vivere sed valere vita

One of seven paintings presented to the Wellcome Institute Library by Dr Robert G. Richardson with the following letter dated 20 June 1995: "They were painted by Heather Child some twenty-five years ago. She was paid by Abbott Laboratories in North Chicago and anyone there who was connected with the journal concerned wouldn't be there any more. Anyway they relinquished any interest in them when the journal folded and gave the author and myself the all-clear to publish in Spectrum International (a Pfizer journal which I still edit). The author, Peter Jones, an Australian surgeon, asked me to hang on to them for him, but he has never enquired about them and a personal envoy (!) of mine was in Australia last year and tried to track him down at his hospital, but he seemed to have vanished. Franklin Scientific Projects (the production people) have no interest in them. So what I am saying is that the paintings are orphans in search of a good home ... I, as the commissioning editor etc. etc. has the best right to them now - so over to you."
