About this work
Description
Collection of medical receipts, mainly in Latin with a few in English. Written in the blank spaces and pages of a commonplace book compiled by George Fawler Tilsley [1695- ]. The signature 'George Fawler Tilsley 1721' is written on the verso of the first leaf. He was born in 1695, was B.C.L. at New College, Oxford in 1717, and Rector of Chartham (Kent) in 1724. Below this signature is a calculation in pencil under the date, adding 69 years-this is written by the hand of the later compiler. The 122 pp. of receipts by this hand are in Latin, but there are some entries in English by the same scribe among the blank spaces in Tilsley's commonplace book.
