Description

Arzneibuch. Preceded by short tracts on medical astrology, fortune telling, etc., and a few medical receipts. Written by several contemporary hands. Some initials, paragraph marks, and headings in red. On ff. 38v, 41, 41v are rough pen-drawn astrological figures. Ff. 1-6 Fragment of an anonymous Swiss Chronicle, describing conflict between Berne and the Old Cantons. 7-19 Miscellaneous medical receipts. 20-25 Diz sint die verbotnen tag und die zwelf manod geschriben nach einander geschriben... 26-33 Hie vachet an ein ler und ein underschied der zwelf zeichen/und der siben planeten des himels und waz ir loff und ir/wurken in der natur betuttet./... 38-34 (Leaves reversed). Physical description

1 volume 145 ll. (last 7 bl.). 4to 19 1/2 14 cm. 16th century stamped vellum binding: both ties missing. The first item is only a fragment of 6 ll. Three leaves have been cut out after fol. 33, two after fol. 67, and others after ff. 77, 82, 129 and at the end of the text. Ff. 34-38 have been bound in upside down.

Purchased 1923.

Biographical note

On fol. 1 signature: 'Ulrich Fridrich zu lichtenstein','J. Rost', on fol. 64, 'Ulrich Fridrich von Lichtenstein'. On fol. 50v, 'Jo[a]chim Rosth von ottenbach': all by contemporary hands. The text of our MS. appears to differ in order and contents from that of the various printed editions.
