Biographical note

Born at Carentan (France) in 1732, Jean-Baptiste-Jacques Elie de Beaumont was a lawyer at the Parliament of Normandy, then at the Parliament of Paris. He also wrote a lot of judicial essays, and is known because of his involvment in the Calas affair in the 1760's. He died in Paris, on 10 January 1786.
