About this work

Description

The mature osteocyte (bone cell) in the artificial three-dimensional culture designed to mimic conditions in the developing embryo. The cell is digitally coloured in red to highlight its surface and branches. Each osteocyte sits in a "cave" called lacuna and lacunae are connected to one another by small canals called canaliculi. The size of the cell is approximately 100 micrometers.
