Description

Letters and postcards from Lord Kelvin and his private secretaries (Thomas Albert Briggs Carver, John Gray, and William Craig Henderson) to Magnus Maclean (d. 1937), mainly while the latter was Lord Kelvin's assistant in the Physical Laboratory at the University of Glasgow, 1885-99. The correspondence concerns work in progress in the Laboratory, especially experiments in physics and electricity. A number of the letters contain diagrams and drawings of apparatus.

Maclean was afterwards Professor of Electrical Engineering in the Royal Technical College, Glasgow.
