    SUPPLEMENT TO THE FORTY-THIRD ANNUAL REPORT. TO THE RIGHT HONOURABLE LORD BALFOUR OF BURLEIGH, His Majesty's Secretary for Scotland. General Boakd of Lunacy, Edinburgh, lith January, 1902. My Lord, We have the honour to lay before you as a Supplement to our Forty-third Annual Eeport, and in accordance with the intention therein expressed, a Report furnished to us by Dr. James Craufurd Dunlop, Edinburgh, on the Dieting of Pauper Lunatics in Asylums and Lunatic Wards of Poorhouses in Scotland. The Board are glad to observe that in the great majority of institutions the diets may be regarded as satis- factory, and that there are only a few cases in which they can be said to fall considerably short of the scientific standard adopted by Dr. Dunlop. While the Board have no desire to suggest absolute uniformity in dietaries, they do not doubt that a careful study of this Report will suggest still further improvements m the dieting of the insane in our institutions.
