Biographical note
The Crichton Royal Institution bought its first fire engine in 1859 and an organised hospital Fire Brigade was established in 1890. The Clerk of Works served as Firemaster and presided over drills that were held every Saturday morning. Several Tradesmen from the Works Department served as Firemen over the history of the Brigade. In 1954 the dedicated hospital Fire Brigade was disbanded.
