Biographical note

Born in Johannesburg, Nancy Zinkin came to England during the First World War with her family. She began her career as a tuberculosis nurse in the 1930s, and then began training in general nursing. She tried to establish a nurses’ union, and was active in protest against low pay and poor conditions. She joined the Communist Party. Later she trained as a midwife, and in 1953 became a Health Visitor. She worked for many years in Ealing as a health visitor and health education officer.
