About this work
Description
Traces the fifteenth and sixteenth century origins of modern anatomy, using contemporary prints and models, with the help of three experts in the field. The contributions of Leonardo da Vinci and Andreas Vesalius are assessed in the context of innovation and authority - namely, the tension between the long-established anatomical doctrine of Galen and the new anatomy of the Renaissance. Taking part are Dr. Vivian Nutton, Wellcome Institute for the History of Medicine, London; Professor Martin Kemp, University of St. Andrew's; and Dr. Andrew Cunningham, Wellcome Unit for the History of Medicine, Cambridge.
