Biographical note

The author was a physician of the Faculté de Médecine, Paris, and was elected to the Académie de Médecine in 1821. He was chief surgeon to the Hospital for Venereal Diseases at Bicêtre. In 1792 he had made experiments in the working of the guillotine on human corpses.
