About this work

Description

Historian Thomas Dixon looks through the BBC archive to show the troubled relationship between religion and science and asks if there is still room for God in the modern world. Beginning with original footage from 1925, we hear the story of John Scopes, a Tennessee teacher who was tried for teaching evolution and we hear later about the recent court case in which the theory of Intelligent Design was put on trial. We hear about what happens when science starts to give reasons for things which were once attributed to God and we see how some of the most famous scientists have seen God in the laws of the universe. The programme ends with a look at brain science which suggests that a belief in God is here to stay.
