Biographical note

The author was a distinguished ophthalmologist who was house surgeon at Moorfields Eye Hospital in 1883, and later surgeon to the Royal London Ophthalmic Hospital from 1895. He was elected F.R.C.S. in 1890, and was consulting surgeon to several hospitals. He published a 'History of Moorfield's Hospital' in 1929. [Cf. B.M.J. 1932, ii, pp. 1167-1169.]
