About this work

Description

entertaining tour of Europe and the U.S. examining attitudes to ageing and efforts to outwit the ageing process and defy death. Part 1 is concerned with physical treatments and Part 2 looks at current attitudes to death and at the social implications of prolonging life beyond its present normal span. Part 2: Begins with a glimpse of the Eternal Flame Foundation, Arizona, at which a speaker declares that a positive mental attitude encourages cellular regeneration and ensures eternal life. The U.S. Select Committee on Ageing funds research into increasing the human lifespan, as does the pharmaceutical industry, but an increased lifespan can mean years of disability. In Italy there are a growing number of cases of young men killing their fathers out of impatience to seize their inheritance - is this indicative of how an ageing population might divide society?
