Biographical note
Rozanne Hawksley (1931-2022) was an artist who creates mixed-media work with a focus on her own life experiences, including losing a baby as a result of thalidomide, her experiences as a child evacuee in WWII, losing her son to cancer, and her experiences as an in-patient following a mental breakdown. Her works use collected and found materials, using bones to represent ‘what is our armour and yet our fragility and breakability’. These intensely personal experiences are often woven into broader themes about suffering, pain, loss, grief in the context of war, religion, with a focus on Catholicism and ritual, medicine and the human condition.
