Plasmodium falciparum malaria: liver

Histopathology of the liver This is a medium power microscopic view of a section of liver from an autopsy of a child with falciparum malaria. It shows dense granular deposits of haemozoin in Kupffer cells and portal tract macrophages. The sinusoids are also very congested with red blood cells. H&E stain.
