The British disease.

This programme looks at the threat Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (new variant CJD) poses to the British public. Taking case studies such as that of Donna Mellowship, Matthew Parker, Claire Tomkins and Pamela Bayless we hear from the families how the disease first showed itself and how quickly it devastated their lives. Moira Bruce from the Institute of Animal Health describes how they discovered the link between vCJD and BSE in cows. We also hear about the latest research into the condition including fears such as the spread of vCJD through blood transfusions.
