About this work

Description

Introduced by Richard Horton, this programme looks at the work of The Lancet. Is it a house journal for the medical profession? Here, Horton uncovers what he calls its 'secret history.' He begins by talking about how Thomas Wakley founded the Lancet and that its aims were to challenge the Royal College of Physicians. Horton challenges Rodney Sweetnam about some rumoured bad practices. In a discussion with George Alberti he asks why certain issues are discussed in secret among members of the Royal College of Physicians. He also challenges the British Medical Association and asks Alexander Macara about the BMA's relationship with the government.
