Description

Black and white photographs showing various stages of penicillin production (most include production staff), comprising:

28 photographs numbered:
10121/A-E
10122/A-J
10124/A-F
10133/A-D
10134/A-C.

Photograph 10134/C is only one to have a description on the verso: "'One of a series of small freeze drying units, Boots Pure Drug Co. Ltd., Nottingham."

There are also two slightly smaller photographs, labelled:
"Penicillin No. 6. Each bottle is charged automatically with a measured quantity of nutrient medium."
"Penicillin No. 18. Control laboratory same as No. 17."

Verso, some of the photographs are date-stamped either 1 or 4 January, 1945, and most are marked, in pencil, "Please return to Dr F Hartley".
