    Deaths The death-rate for 1946 was 1T3. The average rate for the ten years prior to 1946 was 1T9, while that for 1945 was 1T2. The death-rates for 1940 and 1941 were swollen by air raid deaths. The changes in the death-rate in England and Wales and in Birmingham during the past forty-six years can be seen from the figures below, although the figures for 1940 and 1941, swollen as they are by air-raid deaths, obviously cannot fairly be compared with others.
