About this work
Description
Menthol Snuff Compound. Menthol is used internally as a stimulant and carminative in flatulence and gastralgia, either made into a pill, or dissolved in oil and enclosed in a gelatin capsule. It resembles oil of peppermint in its action, but is more powerful, and more liable to upset digestion. It exerts an anaesthetic effect in the stomach, owing to its action on sensory nerve endings, and to this is attributed its beneficial action in sea sickness.
