The inscription "Florence Linton at 1 1/12" is interpreted as meaning that the infant is Florence Linton at the age of 13 months. She may be Florence Beatrice Linton, born in the parish of St Pancras, London, in April 1891

"Molluscum contagiosum" is the name given to wart-like skin eruptions such as those shown in this portrait
