Biographical note

Dr John Walshe (b.1920) worked at Addenbrooke's Hospital Cambridge looking at Wilson's Disease, a genetic disorder where copper accumulates in tissues which often causes liver disease and neurological problems. In 1956 he discovered that penicillamine helps to treat the disease, by binding the excess copper so reducing the amount in the body, and this treatment is still used today.
