About this work

Description

Two typescripts of Crick (1963), "The chemistry of genetics" (and Figure 1).

Also, correspondence regarding "The chemistry of genetics," a paper requested by 'Znanie', a Russian publishing house working in conjunction with the Academy of Sciences of the USSR to produce a popular science year-book. Crick's article was to appear in the (second) year-book Science and Humanity 1963.

The correspondence provides an early example of Crick's reluctance to have his photograph appear in print. On receiving an assurance, he eventually sent the article on 7 November, explaining, with reference to the Nobel Prize, that "all the excitement here has delayed the writing ..." (letter to Dr V R Keler, 30 October).

The file also includes a telegram from Dr Keler congratulating Crick on his Nobel Prize.
