Biographical note

Project Summary:The history of science is littered with theories that have been discredited or superseded. However, at the time they were proposed, they were plausible explanations for hitherto unexplained phenomena. Unlikely Objects is a project that imagines products from an alternative present- one where key debates in the history of biomedical sciences had turned out differently, and now discarded theories had turned out to be true. These speculative realities will be presented through a series of strange yet seductive objects, products of superseded science, exhibited in a temporarily vacant high street retail space. The project will be a collaborative one, asking both historians of science and scientists themselves to imagine what might have been. Through its contrary nature, the project aims to reflect the impact scientific discoveries have on our society, and to examine the operation of science itself.
