About this work

Description

The British National Committee for Immunology (BNCI) was set up in March 1980 to discuss immunological issues of national importance. The BNCI was made up of members of the BSI Committee and representatives appointed by the Royal Society. The chairman of the BNCI, who was also the BSI International Secretary, represented the Committee on the British National Committee for ICSU. Following a number of international conferences and the formation of the International Research Council, the ICSU was established in 1931 to encourage scientific co-operation on an international level and to support the creation of International Unions in various scientific disciplines. The BNCI was dissolved in February 1991. An advisory body was to replace it with the objective of encouraging contact between the BSI Committee and senior immunologists.
