Author of Nuove scoperte intorno le luci notturne dell'acqua marina, spettanti alla naturale storia, Venice 1749, in which he identified fireflies on seaweed as the source of luminescence in the sea. The border of the present portrait shows a larval firefly on the left and some vegetation on the right
