About this work
Description
This volume consists of a number of quires of bluetinted paper (some sheets are water-marked 1849) rapidly written with very full notes of a course of Lectures on Physiology delivered by William Sharpey at University College, London. The course began on the 10th October 1849, and the first lecture (fo. 3) is so dated. Subsequent notes bear the date 1852, and are later additions (fo. 411 verso, etc.). Many of these notes are initialled J.L., but the writer's name is nowhere written in full. The handwriting, however, clearly proves that this manuscript is the work of Joseph (afterwards Lord) Lister, who studied under Sharpey at University College.
