About this work

Description

Transmission electron micrograph taken from a normal fibroblast cell line, showing the connection between two cells. These connections allow for cell-to-cell communication via cell signalling, which coordinates the action of cells. Gap junctions form from direct contact between adjacent cells and is a specialised form of cell communication where the cell membrane of the two cells are connected, allowing the movement of various signalling molecules and ions to pass between the cells.
