About this work

Description

"This is a book about practical action, about ways of working with young people who use drugs and solvents. Nine practitioners (variously involved in the education service, a local authority, IT or probation work, community work, statutory or voluntary drugs projects) have contributed. Although they focus on young people who use solvents, their approach is applicable to young people with different 'addictions,' be it with chemicals or fruit machines. but action is futile without proper undertsanding; therefore young people themselves have contributed descriptions of the nature of drug use, especially solvent use. Two young women make trenchant statements about drug and solvent use, and provide a transcript of an interview with a sniffer. There is also a study of four long-term sniffers, and the seldom-heard voice of the parent is given expression by a foster mother faced with a youngster involved in solvent use. this book should be on the shelves of every drugs agency, and should be read by all practitioners working with young clients who are using drugs of solvent."--From cover.
