Description
This is a high power view of a section of the meninges from a patient who was HIV-positive. The inflammation in the leptomeninges is polymorphic with abundant neutrophils. No granulomas are present in this view. This is characteristic of late stage HIV-related tuberculous meningitis. The presence of polymorphonuclear leucocytes does not indicate purulent bacterial meningitis. H&E stain.
