Notes

On the right, an allegorical figure of surgery amputates a branch of a sick tree. Centre, a statue of Aesculapius, with a rooster and another bird in front of the plinth. Left background an infant straightening a crooked tree, an allegory of orthopaedics. Left, an infant draining fluid from a tree (allegory of bloodletting?). Foreground, infants collecting and preparing herbs. Above, a heron. On the ground, medicinal plants: aloe, plantin, rhubarb, etc. A ship sails on the sea in the distance
