He was born in Saka 1445 (A.D. 1523), and died, at the age of 66, in A.D. 1589. He is best known as the author of Chaitanya-mangala, a metrical biography of Chaitanya, which he is said to have written at the request of his guru Narahari Dasa in A.D. 1537, when he was only 14 years of age. This work, though held in great esteem by Vaishnavas, is not considered to be as authoritative as the Chaitanya-bhagavata of Vrin- davana Dasa, or the Chaitanya-charitaémrita of * In a copy of the author’s Chaitanya-mangala noticed in the Sahitya-parishat-patrika (vol. iv., no. 4, p. 818) her name is said to have been Surapati Arundhati.
