John William Rogers is an art student from Vale Glamorgan in South Wales. He was recently offered a place at Oxford to study Art History but is undecided and might pursue Fine Art at Slade instead. He initially heard about the project through a magazine, and had already seen Artichok'es The Sultan's Elephant. As an art student, he is a great admirer of Antony Gormley's work and so being part of a Gormley project was a big reason for applying. He loves the unique nature of the project specifically the way it appeals to so many social tiers and unifies a country in one focal point. He therefore hopes this art project will be a huge success and be accredited with the merit it deserves. Coming from Wales he has a long history of farming in his family and his most recent project looks at the environment and the decay of manmade objects. He has prepared an MDF board with emulsion and grass, and on the plinth he will be mixing mud with glue and applying it to the board. He will also smother printing ink onto a tyre that he found on his farm, and then use this to paint the board.
