Mandy Sellars, 33, was born with an extremely rare condition in which her lower limbs have grown to over 15 stone in weight. Her problem is so unusual that doctors don't know exactly what's causing it and she now faces the choice of either a double amputation or possible death as her legs continue to grow and put strain onto her heart. She travels to the US to meet experts in amputation and prosthetics. Given the risks to her health of the surgery, she decides to postpone surgery for the time being. When Mandy does decide to undergo amputation surgery it is important that she has an idea of what is causing her condition. She meets genetic specialist Susan Huson for tests; Huson suspects Mosaicism, but a form of it which has never been seen before and may one day be known as Mandy's syndrome.
