Biographical note

Mathew Boulton was a toy manufacturer and entrepreneur who was born and lived in Birmingham. Boulton was a prominent member of the Lunar Society. In 1775 he directed Soho Foundry in partnership with James Watt as well as managing Soho Manufactory and later founded Soho Mint. Boulton put much time and investment into the steam engine, which ultimately made it a commercial success. Boulton had a son with Anne Robinson, born Matthew Robinson Boulton in 1770. After his Fathers death, Robinson-Boulton directed Soho Manufactory and Mint, and Soho Foundry with Watt.
