About this work

Description

Twenty five people join a nude life drawing salon in the National Gallery led by Karly Allen; as the artists settle down to draw, a strange psychological space between the observer and the observed is created. In a meandering documentary, Cathy speaks to various artists who respond to the body in various creative ways through the senses. An artist, Alison Watt as part of her practice painted a life model everyday and mentions how hard it was to not reach out and touch the model. Sound artist Mathew Herbert has been with a life model for a day recording all their body sounds to create what may be the first 'audio nude' alongside an original score he has created. Back to the life drawing class; the model has coloured chalk applied to his body and the artists are invited to let the colour engage their creative senses. Another artist who works with smell, Wolfgang Georgsdorf, has made an olfactory instrument to create 'osmodrama' which has been his life long ambition.
