Designated at the time of this engraving as a portrait of Lucrezia del Fede, wife of the painter Andrea del Sarto. "The identity of the sitter is not known, but the costume suggests a date of about 1540." (National Gallery website, 2018)

Formerly attributed to Bronzino, subsequently to Cristofano Allori, and latterly to an Italian painter (Florentine school, but possibly of North Italian origin)
