Description

Fig. 1. An example of a "pivot tooth", described in Fauchard's work in 1728. The crown is carved out of bone, ivory, or a natural tooth, and fastened to the root with a silver or gold pivot. The root is filled with lead. Fig. 2. The pivot tooth described in Chemant's work in 1816, which was intended to be a crown attached to a root. Page 2, 'Principles and practice of crowning teeth: a practical, systematic and modern treatise upon the requirements and technique of artificial crown work, including some incidental reference to bridgework' by Hart John Goslee, 1903.
