A photomicrograph of a stained section through the islets of Langerhans in a normal human pancreas, showing beta cells secreting insulin (red). Insulin is involved in the regulation of sugar metabolism, beign responsible for removing insulin from the blood by promoting glycogenesis and uptake of glucose by respiring cells.
