Foundation News

This series of 'Foundation News' contains general in-house newsletters. Articles appear relating to the workings of the company, products, staff, premises, changes, and the like. Many photographs appear as well, except in the earliest editions.

Wartime issues give details of those staff serving in the forces.

The frequency of issue of the publication varied over time. In early days it was produced every few months, later becoming bi-monthly and then (usually) monthly. Sometimes issues for two consecutive months were merged and published as one.

Many of the December issues contain Christmas competitions. Some issues also contain loose order forms for various other publications, including diaries.

Publication ceased with the first flotation of The Wellcome Foundation Ltd on the London Stock Exchange in 1986. Thereafter a new series of staff news publications, first 'Wellcome Journal' and later 'Wellcome World', were produced.

The card index to the series is not complete, but nonetheless valuable. It should be used in conjunction with the main run of publications.
