About this work
Description
Part of a series looking at famous British immigrants. Jim Walvin traces the history of Dean Mahomed and meets his still-living ancestors. Mahomed opened the first Indian restaurant in Britain in 1809, was the first Indian to write a book in English, and later became a masseur to the King. Walvin visits the Wellcome Trust and speaks to Anthony Adolf about the Trust's copy of Mahomed's autobiography.
