Description
The dramatis personae include William Shakespeare, Queen Elizabeth I and Falstaff. Falstaff arranges a banquet in honour of Shakespeare. The setting is London: act 1, the Siren inn; act 2, Richmond Park; act 3, Whitehall Palace. The wood engraving shows act 2, scene VII: the drunken Shakespeare ("au comble du deĺire") sees Queen Elizabeth appear at the gothic doorway of a pavilion in Richmond Park; he is dragged away by Olivia
