The discorsi are a revision and enlargement of those published originally with the 1544 edition of the five books of Mattioli's Italian translation of Dioscorides (Libri cinque della historia & materia medicinale) and with the 1548 edition of the six books (Il Dioscoride dell'eccellente dottor medico m. P. Andrea Matthioli)
