Description

Book plate of John Barber-Lomax. Printed in dark brown ink on pale brown paper. Barber-Lomax's name is in a single line box at the bottom and above is an heraldic shield divided into 4 sections. 2 have a cross containing 5 shells, the other two 3 fleur de lys above jagged lines. Behind this is a design of stylised foliage (?) ribbons (?), 2 helmets from suits of armour, one with a lion holding a sword with a white rose on a shield hanging from its neck, the other with an elephant in profile with a castle on its back and the motto above on a flourish.
