About this work

Description

A single sheet of (hard) toilet paper torn from a roll, probably dating from about the 1890s. The paper is printed with an illustration of a varnished wood and bronze finish fixture that would have held the roll in a toilet, available at 1/3d from John Miller, Ltd., wholesale stationers, 116 Renfield Street, Glasgow. This may have been a sample sent out to prospective retailers, hence the printing on the paper. It is "reference no. 5110". We also have examples of Miller's "Silkine", "Globus" and "Purolette" brands of toilet paper (EPH471:38, EPH471:39, EPH471:40).
